This is a really vague question because the difference is so small. The original design of DCS is mainly developed for sequence control, most of the execution is timed scanning mode, the speed of the cycle is not high, most of the applications can be set in 50ms~1 second or more, but the DCS application is mainly the main control of the power plant, papermaking, etc., these occasions are some more complex models, requiring strong analog computing power. At the same time, most DCS are for different development of different functional blocks, users do not need to use their own PID algorithm to control, but abstract to the model or loop this layer.
In addition, the use of DCS points are usually more, many large systems plus intermediate points can reach more than 200,000 points, hard IO points are also tens of thousands of points, if you use a controller is of course very difficult, so most DCS in the network-based multi-DPU collaborative work has a strong ability.
Super redundancy function, redundancy and hot spare this is two completely different technologies, many manufacturers completely confuse the two concepts to mislead customers, most of the redundancy failover time is at the uS level, which is strict seamless switching, and hot spare is with a lot of software characteristics, a bit slower such as a company’s 400 series a large PLC, it takes a few minutes. At the same time, there are also several different ways to achieve redundancy through dual-port RAM and serial communication, which has considerable cost and energy differences, and users need to carefully investigate when choosing.
